BIRTHDAY:
25 June 1968
HOROSCOPE: Cancer BORN: Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland COLOUR OF EYES: Hazel FIRST MUSICAL MEMORY: Winning first prize in the local Feiseanna (school singing competition) for singing 'The Wind In The Willows' around the age of 9 or 10. Always sang in the Church & in 1979, along with the local boys choir, went to Rome & sang for Pope John Paul 11. Then at the first year concert in Gortnor Abbey I sang Don McLean's 'American Pie'. That was the day I knew I wanted to do it for the rest of my life! EDUCATION: St. Tiernans Boys National School & Gortnor Abbey Secondary school, Crossmolina. FAVOURITE COLOUR: Blue FAVOURITE DRINK: Red Wine, Guinness FAVOURITE FOOD: Italian, Indian, Thai. I love to cook when I can. FAVOURITE FILM: 'Grease' (very hard to get the sight of Olivia Newton John out of your head when your 10 years old!), 'Shawshank Redemption', 'Il Postino', I love a lot of old movies & musicals. FAVOURITE ACTOR: Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro, FAVOURITE ACTRESS: Meryl Streep, Olivia Newton John (obviously..Mmm) FAVOURITE BAND: Would have to be U2. Went to see them in Dublin, my first live concert, & to this day i feel it was one of the best I've seen. It was to promote their 'Joshua Tree' album.
FAVOURITE SONGWRITER:Oh dear, this could take more space than is available. So many people have influenced me throughout my life. John Denver, James Taylor, Carol King, Dan Fogelberg, David Gates, Jim Croce...well i did warn you!!
FAVOURITE ALBUM: Again too many to mention, but the first album in a long time to get me excited musically had to be Alanis Morriettes 'Jagged Little Pill'. By now you realise I just love all kinds of music. But in there also has to be, Tapestry by Carole King, Aftertones by Janis Ian, & again we could be here forever!
HIGLIGHTS IN LIFE: Representing Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 had to be a high point. Having just completed writing/producing/playing my third album has to be another. Also, selling out the National Concert Hall, Dublin for the first time. I've been very lucky to have many high points in my career to date, but as I always believe 'one mans floor's another man's ceiling'. Meaning, If I had known when i started this musical journey that i would have achieved this much, then i would be totally fulfilled. But as I achieve more, my wishlist also increases in size. I think this is a very healthy way to think in such a crazy business. After all the day I think I've ' got there', will be the day I won't do it anymore!!
DISLIKES: Lies, rumours, shouting into mobile telephones in public places, traffic jams, & all the usual things that get everybody down. LIKES: Everything other than the above!
MOTTO: 'Never leave to do tomorrow what you can do today...'cos if you do it today & you like it, you can do it again tomorrow!!
